Buthaina Abdulla Bin Belaila is a consultant family physician and the head of non-communicable diseases and mental health at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Health and Prevention. She has been a leading force in national healthcare initiatives, serving as deputy of the National NCD Committee (2016-2025) and contributing to national strategies on cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Dr Bin Belaila played a pivotal role in launching and updating the UAE National Master NCD Plan (2017-2021, 2023-2026) and has led key health campaigns, including those on prediabetes and cardiovascular disease. As the UAE’s focal point for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the World Health Organisation’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office and a leader in the global May Measurement Month initiative for hypertension awareness, she has significantly influenced policy and practice in non-communicable disease prevention. Her research on accountability and investment in relation to NCDs has been widely published in leading medical journals.
