Joe is the Chief Technology Officer at Biosapien, a pioneering biotech startup dedicated to developing novel cancer treatment technologies that have the potential to transform patient care. In his role, Joe leads multidisciplinary teams in designing innovative solutions that integrate advanced engineering with medical science, continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible in cancer treatment.
Prior to joining Biosapien, Joe held several roles at Mount Sinai, where he served as an Instructor in the Department of Neurosurgery and as the Head of Engineering for Mount Sinai BioDesign. During his tenure at Mount Sinai, he spearheaded numerous initiatives in medical device innovation and prototyping, contributing to the development of next-generation medical devices. Joe also earned his PhD at Mount Sinai, where his research into biomechanics, materials science, and device development laid the groundwork for his future endeavors in biomedical engineering and technology development.
Over the past decade, he has also immersed himself in the realms of 3D printing and startup ventures, consistently seeking opportunities to bridge technology and healthcare. A passionate advocate for bio-entrepreneurship, Joe has taken on founding roles in organizations such as Nucleate NYC and GRO-Biotech, in addition to mentoring emerging entrepreneurs in New York City’s vibrant startup ecosystem through programs like the Zahn Innovation Center at The City College of New York. Last, but not least Joe is also the author of the bi-weekly newsletter, Magnitude and Direction, which explores trends in bioengineering, hardware, data science, and the ever-evolving tech and startup communities.
