Chief Executive OfficerUniversity of Pennsylvania Health System
Kevin B. Mahoney is the chief executive officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, a pillar of the Penn Medicine enterprise. He oversees operations across six acute-care hospitals, 13 multispecialty centers, and hundreds of outpatient facilities.
Penn Medicine consists of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and the Perelman School of Medicine. Together, they form one of the world’s leading academic medical centers.
Mahoney joined Penn Medicine in 1996 and has held leadership roles for nearly three decades. He was appointed CEO in July 2019.
Throughout his tenure, Mahoney has led initiatives to improve patient experience and care efficiency, including the creation of the Clifton Center for Medical Breakthrough, a 1.5-million-square-foot hospital, and the integration of the health system’s hospitals, clinics, and home care programs into a unified electronic health records platform.
A visionary leader, Mahoney has championed innovative approaches to care delivery that ensure patients receive the care they need, when and where they need it most. This model, which spans four settings—hospital, multispecialty center, home, and telehealth—has led to better patient outcomes, reduced hospitalizations, shorter stays, and lower health care costs.
A proponent of health care access and innovation, Mahoney co-launched a partnership with the Wharton School to invest in organizations addressing social determinants of health. He holds degrees from Millersville University and Temple University’s Fox School of Business.
